I was born and raised in a little town called Alice in Eastern Cape province of South Africa and this is where I met the Lord in 1982 when He saved me. A few months later I moved to Cape Town and was very active in the local church, Langa Baptist Church, assisting the pastor in youth ministry and cottage meetings as well as prayer meetings. I was also very passionate about preaching the Gospel of Christ in moving trains and buses and shared my faith with everyone I had an opportunity to. It was during this time that I sensed God’s call to fulltime ministry, in 1984 to be precise, and I started theological education in 1985.
My passion for evangelism did not change but was fuelled more by the activities during the three years of training where we would be sent to churches around the country to conduct mass evangelism crusades. I was also at this time assigned to a local church close to the college to preach there every Sunday until I graduated. I was invited to serve Emmanuel Baptist Church after graduating and therefore started as a pastor in 1988 to date. Evangelism over the years has still played a greater part of my ministry, conducting mass evangelism crusades occasionally and personal evangelism since the late 1990’s.
I have also been very much involved in church development across denominational lines and my preaching and teaching ministry has opened doors to churches across the nation. I have also led teams from our local church on short term mission to some countries in Southern Africa and have had the privilege of doing mission work in Germany for three months in 2007.
My skills and expertise have over the years extended to the market place where I have worked as Facilitator of Literacy and Numeracy and also worked as Training & Development Specialist. I have assisted some Institutions including universities in facilitation and learning programmes and materials design and development.
The summary of my working life includes preaching, teaching, counseling, facilitation, training material design and development, mentoring as well Leadership and Management Development. I am also a consultant on Performance and Risk Management System and Organisational Development in private sector and churches. I also speak at seminars and conferences on marriage and family life as well as offer premarital classes for young people preparing for a married life. I have been married to Nosimo for 29 years and we have four children, the eldest being adopted, three young men and a girl. I have three grandchildren from the first two children, two boys and a girl.
My academic qualifications include a Diploma in Theology, Certificate in Management, Post Grad Certificate in Organisation Development and Change Management, Higher Diploma in Adult Education and Training, Bachelor of Arts Honours in Group Dynamics and Masters in Development Studies.
My current responsibility in the Baptist denomination includes serving in the continent as President of the Southern Africa region of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship and in the international level as a member of the Commission on Worship and tradition of the Baptist World Alliance.
My encounter with The Rooftop was when I met Dennis Pethers, the Visionary behind The Rooftop at a Baptist World Alliance meeting in Chille and we exchanged contacts after he shared the vision with me. It excited me more when I read about it a couple of months later when he sent an email explain what the vision is all about and I knew I wanted to be part. I wanted at the end on my life to serve a vision and so I invited Dennis to come to South Africa to introduce it and I committed myself to serve as the National Pioneer.
