The Joining Jesus Pastors and Leaders Course has been written by Rev Dennis Pethers and is helping pastors across the world to equip the church to Join Jesus in His Mission.
Introduction to the Course.
Introduction
In a world that is becoming increasingly disconnected from the church, many pastors are finding it more and more challenging to know how to reach people who are not coming into our buildings. Have you, as a pastor, ever said, or thought something like:
“I know that I should be equipping the church to be disciples who make disciples but, to be honest, I have never been equipped myself”.
The Joining Jesus Pastors and Leaders course is the result of working alongside pastors in a huge variety of contexts all over the world for over 30 years. It is unswervingly biblical and intensely practical, built on the disciple-making method of Jesus who:

- TOLD the disciples the good news of the Kingdom and how they should join Him in His Mission.
- SHOWED them how to be effective.
- LET them go and do the things that they had seen Him do
‘Joining Jesus’ uses TELL me SHOW me LET me to equip leaders to make disciples who will make disciples among people who are beyond the walls of the church.
- TOLD the disciples the good news of the Kingdom and how they should join Him in His Mission.
- SHOWED them how to be effective.
- LET them go and do the things that they had seen Him do
Overview
Each Joining Jesus leader’s course will:
- Be taught/facilitated by a Rooftop National Pioneer through 12 online equipping sessions that will be followed by action leading to reflection on what is being learned.
- Consist of 12 pastors/leaders who will participate in the online equipping session (through ZOOM) together and be placed into pairs for the ‘let me’ aspects of Joining Jesus.
- Include practical and written ‘exercises’ that will measure the competency of the leader to be an equipper of a missional community. A certificate will be awarded to all who demonstrate competency. This will validate them to teach the ‘Joining Jesus’ course to others.
- Focus on three key areas:
- What is the mission of Jesus?
- What is a disciple?
- How do we make disciples who make disciples?
- What is the mission of Jesus?
- What is a disciple?
- How do we make disciples who make disciples?
Rev Dennis Pethers
‘Joining Jesus’ has been created by Rev Dennis Pethers, Founder and International Pioneer of The Rooftop.
Dennis became a disciple of Jesus having been an atheist. Following his decision to follow Christ, Dennis trained at Spurgeon’s College, London and then pastored a ‘missional community’ on the edge of London. For most of His ministry Dennis has been engaged in evangelism and disciple-making. Between 1993 and 2014, Dennis founded and led ‘Viz-A-Viz Ministries’ an organization that reached tens of thousands of people in the UK who are beyond the walls of the church. In 2014, Dennis founded The Rooftop Ministries, a global movement that is encouraging and equipping churches to join Jesus in His mission by making disciples among people who are beyond the walls of the church.
FUNDING
While the disciple-making materials associated with The Rooftop process are available free-of-charge, we do ask for a financial contribution from pastors who become part of a ‘Joining Jesus Pastors and Leaders Course’.
As a global ministry we are seeking to equip pastors across the world and as such we are aware that the financial resources available to pastors varies greatly depending upon where they are serving.
As such, we have set three price bands as follows:
Price Band A $1,000.00 for the 12 month consultation, paid in 4 equal installments. This payment covers the costs of leading the course and enables us to allocate some funds to Prices Bands B and C.
Price Band B For pastors of smaller churches with limited funds we are willing to reduce the cost to $500 for the 12 month consultation.
Price Band C For pastors in the developing world or in similar, challenging situations, we make a very nominal charge that is agreed based on the individual circumstances of each pastor.

Being a disciple is what we are called to be, and part of being a disciple is making disciples. In my conversations with church leaders it has become apparent to me that many of us have not been discipled in a way that equips us to make more disciples. Joining Jesus is a small group of leaders who are meeting together not just to learn what it means to be a disciple that makes disciples, we are out doing it. I have seen the benefits in my own life. I have started to look in my own personal life and the lives around me where God is working and joined Him there and already seen God work in great ways. I’m thankful for my time in Joining Jesus.
