Report on 8 Compass Point Cities National Encounters
During the month of July 2021, The Rooftop North America had the opportunity to coordinate Rooftop Encounters in 8 key cities in the United States as part of a national prayer initiative known as Prayer at the Heart. These Rooftop Encounters took place around a national prayer event in the geographical center of the United States (the heart of the nation) on July 23 in Lebanon, Kansas.
The 8 cities, referred to as the Compass Point cities, were Miami FL (SE), Virginia Beach (E), Bangor ME (NE), Grand Forks ND (N), Seattle WA (NW), San Francisco CA (W), San Diego CA (SW), and Corpus Christi TX (S). While most cities hosted only one Rooftop Encounter during the month, several cities hosted multiple Rooftop Encounters at different locations. Lisa Abeyta, our Rooftop Ambassador in Seattle, led Rooftop Encounters every Wednesday evening in July and August.
It was exciting to see how God raised up leaders in each city who were willing to be equipped to lead Rooftop Encounters in their cities. In Corpus Christi TX, we had the largest turnout for an Encounter with 300 gathering on the USS Lexington to pray over the city.
As these Rooftop Encounters took place, it was inspiring to hear reports from the leaders as to how God spoke during the Encounters, giving people eyes to see their cities through God’s eyes. This is the report from Matt and Amy Stoehr who led the San Diego Encounter:
What a beautiful and powerful time we experienced with the Lord and with each other today as 22 of us gathered at Double Peak park amphitheater. We shared a time of worship together, received communion, spent time in silence listening for the Lord and asking Him what He wanted to show us. Then each person came up to share what the Lord had revealed, and led us in praying into that directive … others then added their agreement and additional prayer. We stretched our hands toward our city and proclaimed scriptures over the region and nation. All were in one accord, positioned in reverential worship and every person stepped into prayer with the authority of the Name of Jesus and the love of the Father, led by the Holy Spirit. After every person shared and we prayed, we gathered in a circle and closed in worship. One woman had brought a nail from an old California railroad track and a hammer. We all hammered that nail into the ground of this high place as a prophetic exercise to stake the region and our nation to the will of God and His purposes for this moment.
